New play barn made possible in part by a LEADER grant
De Drentse Koe’s new play barn in Ruinerwold was built with financial support from the European LEADER programme for rural development.
What is a LEADER grant?
LEADER (Liaison Entre Actions de Développement de l’Économie Rurale) is a European funding programme aimed at strengthening rural areas.
It supports regional initiatives in areas such as the economy, quality of life, sustainability and biodiversity.

With this expansion, we are open all year round, provide year-round employment in the local area and contribute to a sustainable future for rural Drenthe.
Opening of the new play barn
On 12 December, we officially opened the new play barn together with provincial executive Gert-Jan Schuinder. The new play barn includes a new food and drinks area and several new activities. Children can ride electric tractors, go roller skating, try fun bowling, dodge lasers on the laser course or bounce on the brand-new haystack-shaped bouncy castle.
There is also a dedicated toddler play area, where toddlers can play safely while parents and carers enjoy a cup of coffee. A brand-new stage has also been built especially for the Lisa & Loetje show.
